Men's Central Jail December 2010 Party

On December 10, 2010, employees from the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail attended a Christmas Party at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello California. Several hours into the party, a fight involving several employees occurred. The incident resulted with several employees sustaining injuries. On December 14, 2010, Sheriff Baca directed the Department’s Internal Criminal Investigation Bureau (ICI to launch a criminal investigation into the facts surrounding the incident. Due to the nature and volume of the incident, ICIB has dedicated five investigative teams which includes eight investigator sergeants, one deputy and one crime analyst to the investigation.

To date over 150 interviews have been conducted. In addition to ICIB, The Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau (IA is actively monitoring this case. IAB has assigned one full team of six investigator sergeants, with a cadre of sergeants from two other teams on stand-by to assist when called upon. As with any significant incident, Sheriff Baca has also asked the Office of Independent Review (OIR) to conduct a review of the incident. Due to the complexity and critical nature of this case it is imperative for the department to utilize all investigative options to ensure a complete, thorough, factually unbiased investigation is presented. It is estimated that this investigation will be completed sometime in February 2011.
